The private limited company Meers has its origins in a farm based in Riemst, which was the property of the parents of Eduard Meers. There were 4 sons and, due to the increasing demand for transport services, Eduard Meers started with 1 lorry in 1959. Two of his brothers continued with a farming enterprise and the last brother was in charge of the bookkeeping.

Eduard Meers moved to Eigenbilzen in 1965 and he further developed the company there to create a one-man business.
A 2nd lorry was added in 1966 and he, thus, employed one person.
Eduard Meers and his wife operated the company all those years and in 1989 they decided to set up the private limited company Meers with their 2 sons who had completed their studies. The first few years,
Mr Eduard Meers and his sons, Olivier and Xavier, drove the lorries themselves and his wife was in charge of invoicing and the administrative work.
The work pressure increased to such an extent down the years that they decided to employ their first driver in 1992.
Another 14 members of staff were recruited during the next 10 years.
In 2001, the company had to build a new office building and added value by also building sheds and a garage.
The move to Lanaken was also due to environmentally technical reasons since the company needed to be up-to-date with regard to environmental permits.
Meers also invested in an automatic truckwash at this time that works with environmentally-friendly products.
Xavier Meers was, due to the above, forced to take charge of the planning because the company was receiving so many work orders. He simply could not continue arranging matters from his lorry.

In 2004 Meers Transport Internationaal BVBA took over the Wessem Wegtransport company, which again led to further growth and the company had to build an additional shed in 2005 and recruit even more staff. The company also expanded the office space at this time.

In 2006 the company again significantly invested in asphalting the whole of the car park.

In 2007 the company invested in the storage of fertiliser in a new shed.
The company also invested in a bagging plant for packaging fertiliser for third parties.

In 2008 a subsidiary was set up in Luxemburg.
Meers invested in 5 new tipping trailers and 5 walking floors.
With regard to new lorries, Meers invested in 15 lorries all of which were Euro 5 vehicles that also meet the required environmental standards.
